What Size Portrait Drawing Should I Order?A major consideration in ordering a custom portrait drawing is always size. How big of a portrait do I need to order in order to meet my goal? Well that question can only be answered if we know what your goal is: 1. The portrait Drawing will be displayed Upright on a desk, or End tableFor portrait drawings that will be displayed this way, I personally recommend a 5x7". They are first off less expensive, and secondly they are not so large that they get in the way and possibly tipped over. When matted the 5x7" Portrait Drawing has an outer dimension of 8x10". This is pretty much the standard size you will see in this setting. Because of this it is highly recommended. Being smaller it is also not overpowering, a perfect accent to a room or desk and gauranteed to strike up a conversation! Resources 2. The Portrait Drawing will be displayed on a wall in a small room or hallwayFor portrait drawings displayed in this way, I recommend the 8x10" size. Cost wise this portrait is still pretty reasonable, and the shipping is also considerably less than a larger portrait. Your matted 8x10" portrait will have an outer dimension of 11x14". Slightly larger than the previous size adds clarity at further distances and looks nicer on a wall. While some customers will display their 8x10" portrait drawing upright on a table, desk, or countertop I personally would not recommend it because it can easily be knocked over. Depending on the setting however, this may not be the case. Resources 3. The Portrait Drawing will be displayed on a wall in a large room, or will be the center of attentionIf you're looking for a large, eye catching portrait drawing to display in a large room the 11 x 14" size is for you. While these portraits are more expensive they are very impressive and are sure to strike up conversation with guest, as well as bring you much satisfaction. Your matted 11 x 14" portrait drawing will have an outer dimension of 16 x 20". For most work this is as large as I go. The size lends itself nicely to collages, family portraits, and head and chest portraits. While these larger portraits look great on a wall I do not recommend standing them upright as they can be very tippy and easily damaged if a sturdy enough easel is not used. Resources
